About the Book.

Hannah Howard has always had a messy, wonderful, complicated bond with food. Growing up, food was an expression of love and connection. But when Hannah developed an eating disorder, food became a source of anxiety and shame. This was chronicled in her critically acclaimed 2018 memoir, Feast: True Love In and Out of the Kitchen, a story that saw Hannah break through her unhealthy habits in both food and love. After years of eating, drinking, and working in restaurants in New York City, Hannah has emerged as a food writer and enveloped herself in a vibrant community of women in the male-dominated food industry.

In her follow-up memoir, PLENTY: A Memoir of Food and Family, where drippy, delicious descriptions of stinky cheeses, briny broquerones, saffron and cardamom cupcakes, and more powerfully punctuate Hannah’s shift in focus to the relationships with these women who have inspired her throughout the years, skillfully weaving in her own continued food and family journey. Through a web of vivid vignettes, Hannah casts a spotlight on each of the women who tell their stories of resiliency, innovation, and adaptability, from the Italian chef who moved from bustling Milan to teach online cooking classes in the country, to the Irish woman with a background in design who runs a luxury barge cruise that runs on the rivers of Bordeaux, to the Iranian immigrant running a catering company out of a kitchen in Queens who features dishes from the many countries her employees are from (who are also immigrants, most without any kitchen experience), to the plucky young barista carving out a community during a global pandemic, while also trying to get pregnant with her wife, and more.
